External Scholarships

Students applying to study at Tel Aviv University's overseas program through any one of our offices are also strongly encouraged to seek external (non-TAU) sources of funding.

Some possible sources include, but are not limited to:

• The Government of Israel and the Jewish Agency have launched a major new project which provides scholarship assistance to Jewish young adults who study in Israel on long-term educational programs. Please go to http://www.masaisrael.org/masa/english/ for information.

• Your study-abroad office, Middle Eastern Studies Department, or Jewish Studies Department.

• AZM Helyn B. Reich Scholarship

Each year, the American Zionist Movement (AZM) grants Helyn B. Reich Scholarships to a limited number of American students who have been accepted and will attend one of several designated Israeli universities for a year or semester (preference given to full-year students). The Helyn B. Reich Memorial Scholarship seeks to honor candidates who demonstrate past pro-Israel activity and a commitment to future involvement with Israel and the Jewish community. Financial need will also be considered, though more emphasis will be placed on merit. Recipients of the Helyn B. Reich Scholarship will be expected to remain involved with the American Zionist Movement following their return to the United States. The scholarship is named in memory of the wife of a past AZM president whose daughter studied at Tel Aviv University and now lives in Israel. Deadline for application is May 1.

• Hebrew Free Loan Societies

• Your home school's Hillel and Hillel's Leadership Scholarship Program in Israel (call 202-857-6525).

• The Dorot Foundation

• The Yiddish Summer Program - Tuition assistance provided to qualified students by the Goldreich Family Institute for Yiddish Language, Literature, and Culture. Students must be enrolled in the TAU program.

• American-Israeli Cooperative Enterprise (AICE)

The Schusterman Israel Scholar Awards are open to U.S. citizens who are interested in academic careers related to Israel studies. $10,000 awards will be available to undergraduates who have already been accepted to a graduate program, graduate students who have received master’s degrees in Middle East related fields who wish to pursue a doctorate and doctoral students who are writing dissertations related to Israel. Proposals from candidates in all disciplines are welcome.

• Fulbright Grants for American Exchange Students-IIE sponsored by the U.S. State Department.

• Veterans Affairs- Enrolled graduate students on the MA Program in Middle Eastern History may apply for GI Bill benefits or VA Tuition Assistance. The Certification Form must be completed by the applicant and sent to the Office of Academic Affairs for certification and processing.
